Kölner Revisol is a useful tool for gilding freshly varnished/painted surfaces that still offer some adhesion for gold leaf. As a gilder it can be frustrating that gold leaf sticks where it shouldn't, Kölner Revisol prevents this. Revisol is a temporary separating and protective agent for gilding on freshly lacquered or painted surfaces that still retain surface tack. It prevents uncontrolled adhesion of gold leaf outside the intended gilding areas. Revisol is applied in a thin, even layer over the entire surface and allowed to dry completely. The areas to be gilded can then be coated with suitable adhesives such as oil mixtion, Instacoll, or Signcoll. After the gilding process is complete and fully dry, the Revisol layer can be removed without residue using a soft cloth lightly moistened with water. Gold leaf outside the gilded area adheres to the Revisol layer and can be easily removed together with it.
