Kölner Miniatum Gel is a pasty adhesive for the artistic application of gold leaf and metal leaf on flexible surfaces. It works perfectly on parchment, paper, canvas, plastic and leather. The result is a 3D gilding where the light is reflected onto the gold leaf from several sides. It is applied either with a brush (not too soft hair), painter's knife, small spatulas etc. After applying this adhesive, gilding can begin after at least 3 hours, depending on the thickness of the layer. Real gold leaf is best applied within 72 hours. Metal leaf should be applied within 12 hours. If the Miniatum gel has become too dry and the gold leaf no longer adheres, this can be activated with warm air (e.g. with a hairdryer). Finest lines can be made with a variety of drawing instruments laid with gold or silver leaf. Drying time depends on thickness of application and absorbency of the surface. The average application dries in less than half an hour. The open time for gilding with patent leaf is 3 hours after film formation.In addition, Kölner Miniatum Ink is excellent for gold-edged books.A gold-edged book is the luxurious gilding of the page edges, giving any book a high-end finish. Achieving a gold-edged book is particularly easy and reliable with Kölner Miniatum Ink. The applicator fits comfortably in the hand and, thanks to the different needle tips, allows both very fine and slightly thicker lines – ideal for demanding creative work.
